DailyChinwag press kit
In one paragraph
DailyChinwag is a Newcastle-built telephone companion for older people. It rings your mum or dad as often as every day for a warm, unhurried chat on the phone they already have, remembers what they tell it, and emails the family after every call. It is honest by design: the companion says plainly that it is a computer, on the very first call and whenever asked. It is companionship, not care. It works alongside pendant alarms and never gives medical advice.
The story
Founder Liam Hunter’s grandmother had dementia. What she needed most wasn’t complicated: somebody with time for her, every day. Years earlier, collecting newspaper money door to door as a teenager, half his round was pensioners and every doorstep turned into an hour. They never wanted anything except to be listened to. DailyChinwag exists because both of those things are true at once.
Facts
- Care homes from £69 per resident per month; family plans from £89 a month when places open; 14-day cooling-off; cancel any time; pause for hospital stays.
- Nothing starts until the older person says yes themselves, on their own phone.
- Scam mentions and welfare concerns reach a nominated family member the same day, in the person’s own words. Never emergency services.
- Companions with regional voices, including Geordie.
- Care-home bundles: a staff portal and a written wellbeing note after every call.
What we will not say
That the companion is a person. That it detects illness. That it replaces family, carers or alarms. That loneliness is cured.
