For a mum living alone
Mum's on her own now, and you can't ring every day
The house is quieter than it was. She says she's fine, and mostly she is, but the days are long, the phone doesn't ring as much as it used to, and you're doing your best from a job, a family and a distance. DailyChinwag rings her as often as every day for a proper, unhurried natter, remembers what she tells it, and lets you know how she seemed.
Nothing starts until she says yes herself. We ring you first, then her. Family places aren’t open yet. Nothing is paid, nothing is set up, and nobody is rung until we ring you first.
Hear Elsie: 45 seconds
A real chinwag between Elsie and Doris. Elsie says plainly she’s a computer, and remembers the trifle.
The day has a shape again
A call at her time (after Bargain Hunt, before the news) that she looks forward to. Same voice, every call, never in a hurry.
You hear how she is, not just that she's alive
A short note after each call: how she seemed, what she's looking forward to, what she mentioned. The weekly digest reads like a letter.
The bits she'd never tell you
'A nice man from the bank rang.' A fall she didn't want to bother you with. A low week. Flagged to you the same day, in her own words.
“I should say, I’m a computer, not a person, but I’m told I’m a very good listener.”
The first thing Elsie ever says. Honest by design, so they always know.
Have a chinwag with Elsie
Two minutes, typed. She’ll ask about your mum or dad and remember what you say. Nothing you type is kept.
Elsie:Hello, love. I'm Elsie. I should say straight off, I'm a computer, not a person. Who is it you've got in mind for a daily chinwag?
She’s a computer and says so. Please don’t type phone numbers or addresses. She doesn’t need them and won’t keep them.

The questions families ask first
She'll say she doesn't need it.
Most do, at first. That's why nothing starts until we've rung her ourselves and asked, in her own time, whether she'd like it. If she says no, that's the answer, and we refund every penny.
Isn't this a bit… replacing me?
No. It's the ten minutes a day you can't always give, so that the visits and calls you can give aren't spent catching up on the basics.
