DailyChinwag — press facts (updated 29 October 2026)

What it is: a daily telephone companion for older people in the UK. A companion called Elsie rings an older person for a warm, unhurried chat on the phone they already have: no apps, no internet. She remembers what matters, picks up where the last chat left off, and the family can see how each call went. If something sounds wrong (a fall, a scam, a worry) the family is told the same day. Elsie is a computer, says so on the first call, and says so whenever she is asked.

Founder: Liam Hunter, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Launch: Friday 30 October 2026; first calls from Monday 2 November. Care homes first, anywhere in the UK; families join a waiting list.
Family plans (VAT included): Check-In £89/month (three 15-minute calls a week), Companion £149/month (a 15-minute call every day), Morning & Evening £299/month (two calls a day), All Day £299/month (daily calls up to 30 minutes). 14-day cooling-off; cancel any time; pause for hospital stays.
Care homes: per resident, with a written wellbeing note after every call and a free four-week trial for care homes anywhere in the UK.
Consent: nothing starts until the older person says yes themselves, on a recorded welcome call.
Safety: a written plan agreed with the family; the family's chosen contacts are rung in order. DailyChinwag is not an emergency service and gives no medical, financial or legal advice; in an emergency, call 999.

A number we can stand behind: Age UK estimates around 940,000 older people in the UK often feel lonely (about 7% of those aged 65+).
